Stalin urges PM Modi to give legal status to Lankan Tamils in India

In a recent appeal, Chief Minister MK Stalin of Tamil Nadu urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide legal recognition to Sri Lankan Tamils residing in India. Highlighting the challenges faced by these individuals, Stalin called for the waiving of visa requirements and an expedited citizenship process. This request aims to address the longstanding plight of Sri Lankan Tamils, many of whom fled to India due to civil strife in their homeland. The CM emphasized the need for humanitarian support and legal acknowledgment to facilitate their integration into Indian society. As a significant portion of the Tamil population in India has familial and cultural ties with the Tamils in Sri Lanka, this move could also enhance diplomatic relations and community welfare. Stalin's appeal resonates with the sentiments of many in Tamil Nadu who have historically championed the rights of Tamils across borders.
