Shikhar Dhawan's ex-wife ordered to return part of settlement money; Delhi court flags coercion, trickery

In a significant ruling, a Delhi court has ordered Shikhar Dhawan's ex-wife to return a portion of the settlement money previously agreed upon during their divorce proceedings. The court highlighted issues of coercion and trickery surrounding the initial agreement, suggesting that the settlement may not have been reached under fair circumstances. In addition to the repayment, the court mandated that an interest rate of 9 percent per annum be applied to the owed amount, effective from the date the lawsuit was filed until the complete payment is made. This decision underscores the judicial system's commitment to ensuring fairness and transparency in family law matters, particularly in cases involving financial settlements. Dhawan, a notable figure in Indian cricket, and his ex-wife's case has drawn public attention, reflecting broader societal issues related to financial disputes in separation cases. The court's ruling may serve as a precedent for similar cases in the future, emphasizing the importance of integrity in settlement negotiations and the legal protections available to individuals in such situations.
