SC directs Centre to participate in meeting on lack of functional CCTVs

The Supreme Court of India has mandated the central government to attend a crucial meeting addressing the significant issue of non-functional Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras across various locations. This directive comes amid growing concerns about public safety and the effectiveness of surveillance systems in preventing crime. The court emphasized that the lack of operational CCTV infrastructure undermines security efforts and called for immediate action to rectify the situation. The meeting will involve stakeholders from different sectors, including law enforcement agencies and technology providers, to discuss strategies for enhancing the functionality and coverage of CCTV systems nationwide. This initiative aligns with the government's broader objectives of improving urban security and leveraging technology to safeguard citizens. The Supreme Court's intervention underscores the judiciary's role in ensuring that governmental bodies fulfill their responsibilities in maintaining public safety through effective surveillance measures.
