In the fiscal year 2025-26, India achieved a remarkable milestone by adding 52,537 megawatts (MW) to its energy generation capacity, with a significant 75% of this increase derived from renewable energy sources. The Ministry of Energy reported that out of the total capacity added, 39,657 MW came from renewable sources, highlighting the country’s commitment to sustainable energy development. Notably, solar energy contributed the most, accounting for 34,955 MW, while wind energy added 4,613 MW. This substantial growth in renewable energy capacity aligns with India’s broader goals to enhance energy security, reduce carbon emissions, and transition towards a greener economy. The government’s focus on expanding renewable energy infrastructure reflects its commitment to meeting international climate agreements and fostering sustainable development. As India aims to become a global leader in renewable energy, this record addition underscores the progress made in harnessing clean energy technologies, which are essential for achieving energy independence and addressing climate change challenges.
