One In Five IAS, IPS And IFS Posts Vacant, Government Informs Parliament

Recent data presented in Parliament reveals that approximately one in five positions in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and Indian Foreign Service (IFS) remain unfilled. Out of a total sanctioned strength of 6,858 IAS officers, only 5,457 are currently serving, resulting in a significant vacancy rate of 20.4%. This situation raises concerns about the efficiency and effectiveness of governance, as a reduced number of officers may hinder administrative functions and public service delivery. The government has been urged to take immediate steps to address these vacancies, ensuring that essential services and law enforcement are not compromised. The report underscores the necessity for timely recruitment and retention strategies to bolster these critical civil services, which play a vital role in the functioning of the Indian government and its various administrative frameworks.
