Microsoft Says Copilot Gained Access to Confidential Outlook Emails Due to Bug: Report

Microsoft has acknowledged a significant bug in its Microsoft 365 Copilot feature that inadvertently granted the AI assistant access to confidential Outlook emails. This issue, identified as CW1226324, was first detected in January and allowed the Copilot to summarize sensitive emails without user consent for several weeks. While Microsoft has not disclosed the number of affected users, the company began rolling out a fix for the bug in early February. This incident raises concerns about data privacy and security, particularly as more users rely on AI tools for managing their email and workflow. The company is working to ensure that such vulnerabilities are addressed promptly to maintain user trust in its services.
