Joint maritime mechanism in IOR will be based on consensus: Navy Chief

In a recent statement, Indian Navy Chief Admiral R. Hari Kumar emphasized that the proposed joint maritime mechanism in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) will prioritize consensus among regional nations. This initiative aims to enhance maritime security and foster collaborative efforts to address emerging challenges in the region, including piracy and maritime terrorism. Admiral Kumar highlighted the significance of collective action, noting that a unified approach is essential for maintaining peace and stability in the IOR, which is a critical maritime corridor for trade and commerce. The framework is expected to involve various stakeholders, including neighboring countries, and will build on existing partnerships. The Navy Chief's remarks reflect India's strategic vision for a cooperative maritime environment, reinforcing its commitment to safeguarding national interests while promoting regional cooperation. This move aligns with India's broader defense strategy, which seeks to strengthen ties with other nations in the Indo-Pacific region amidst increasing geopolitical tensions.
