Jaishankar denies India has lost ‘strategic autonomy’

At the Munich Security Conference, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar addressed concerns regarding India's strategic autonomy in the context of global alliances. He emphasized that India's diplomatic approach has consistently involved forming collaborative partnerships based on mutual interests, rather than compromising its sovereignty. Jaishankar highlighted that such 'agenda-based' coalitions have been a hallmark of Indian foreign policy for the past two decades, allowing India to navigate complex international relations while maintaining its independent stance. This assertion comes amid rising speculation about India's alignment with various geopolitical blocs, particularly in light of recent tensions in Asia and beyond. He reiterated that India's strategic choices are driven by its national interests, ensuring that the country retains control over its foreign policy direction, despite evolving global dynamics. The minister's remarks serve to reassure both domestic and international audiences of India's commitment to preserving its autonomy while engaging with other nations on critical issues.
