It’s time the old perception of the JVP’s India stance changed: Tilvin Silva

Tilvin Silva, a prominent leader of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), has emphasized the need to reevaluate the outdated perceptions regarding the party's stance towards India. In light of the recent discussions during his visit, which primarily focused on enhancing development cooperation, Silva pointed out that critical issues such as provincial elections, the national question, and power devolution were not addressed. This shift in focus underscores the JVP's commitment to fostering stronger ties with India, especially in the context of economic collaboration. Historically, the party has faced criticism for its perceived anti-India sentiment, but Silva argues it is now time to recognize the evolving dynamics and the potential benefits of cooperative engagement. The JVP's approach may signal a broader willingness to engage with regional powers, moving beyond past narratives and towards a more progressive and constructive dialogue that prioritizes development and mutual growth. As Sri Lanka continues to navigate its complex geopolitical landscape, clarity on its political parties' foreign policy orientations becomes increasingly essential for both domestic and international stakeholders.
