India’s ambassador to Indonesia tipped to be next envoy to Bangladesh

Sandeep Chakravorty, currently serving as India's ambassador to Indonesia, is poised to become the next envoy to Bangladesh. Having joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1996, Chakravorty has substantial experience in South Asian diplomacy, including a previous role as deputy chief of mission in Dhaka from 2012 to 2015. His appointment is seen as strategic, especially given the historical and cultural ties between India and Bangladesh. The decision follows a review of potential candidates for the position, which was conducted late last year. As bilateral relations continue to evolve, Chakravorty's familiarity with the region and its dynamics is expected to play a crucial role in furthering India's interests in Bangladesh. This anticipated change in envoy underscores India's commitment to maintaining strong diplomatic relations in South Asia, particularly in light of recent developments in the region. Chakravorty's extensive background in foreign service positions him well to navigate the complexities of Indo-Bangladeshi relations, which encompass trade, security, and migration issues.
