Highways Authority NHAI Plans To End Cash Toll Payments From April 1

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to eliminate cash payments at toll plazas starting April 1, 2024. This decision aims to promote digital transactions and streamline the toll collection process across the nation’s highways. Commuters will be required to utilize electronic payment methods such as FASTag and UPI, which are designed to enhance efficiency and reduce congestion at toll booths. The move aligns with the Indian government's push towards a cashless economy, encouraging the adoption of technology to facilitate smoother travel experiences. Officials from NHAI are optimistic that this transition will not only improve revenue collection but also enhance road safety by minimizing the time vehicles spend at toll plazas. As the deadline approaches, the NHAI is expected to launch awareness campaigns to educate the public about the new payment methods and ensure a smooth transition for all road users.
