Ex-RG Kar principal awarded college’s contracts to cartel, got ₹70-L bribe: ED

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has charged Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, with significant corruption related to college contracts. According to the charge sheet filed last week, Ghosh allegedly awarded all contracts to a cartel comprising two firms controlled by the same individuals. In return for these contracts, he reportedly received bribes amounting to ₹70 lakh, charging a commission of 10-15% in cash for his facilitation. This case highlights ongoing issues of corruption within educational institutions in India, raising concerns about the integrity of public services and the management of funds in the educational sector. The ED's investigation aims to uncover the full extent of the wrongdoing and ensure accountability among those in positions of trust in the academic community.
