Delhi govt to recruit 15,000 more home guard personnel: LG
The Delhi government has announced plans to recruit an additional 15,000 home guards, increasing their total strength to 25,000 personnel. This decision was revealed by Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, who recently distributed appointment letters to 1,669 newly recruited home guards from an initial batch of 10,000. The recruitment initiative began in January, and the newly appointed home guards include 226 former civil defence volunteers who were previously removed from their positions as bus marshals, as well as 181 women. The LG emphasized the importance of filling the remaining vacancies after some candidates approached the courts, leading to a temporary halt in the appointment process for 7,939 home guard posts amid legal challenges. Despite receiving over 109,000 applications for the initial recruitment, only a small fraction attended the physical tests. The LG has urged the director general of home guards to expedite the process of filling the remaining vacancies, ensuring that the home guard force is robust and adequately staffed to meet the demands of the capital city.
