Defence panel gives nod for 288 S-400 missiles, used during Operation Sindoor, from Russia

The Indian Defence Acquisition Council has approved the procurement of 288 S-400 surface-to-air missiles from Russia, which played a crucial role during Operation Sindoor. This decision highlights India's ongoing commitment to bolster its air defense capabilities amid regional security challenges. The S-400 systems, renowned for their advanced radar and missile technology, are expected to enhance the Indian Air Force's operational readiness significantly. In addition to the S-400s, the Indian Air Force is advocating for the acquisition of five more S-400 systems along with the Pantsir short-range air defense system. This move is seen as part of India's broader strategy to modernize its military assets and ensure robust defense preparedness in light of increasing tensions in the region, especially concerning threats from neighboring countries. The procurement of these advanced systems marks a significant step in India's defense collaboration with Russia, underscoring the strategic partnership between the two nations in the defense sector.
