CBSE Says 1st Board Exam Mandatory, Repeat Year If 3 Or More Subjects Missed

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that for students appearing for Class 10 board exams in 2026, missing three or more subjects in the main examination will result in the student being required to repeat the academic year. This decision aims to reinforce the importance of attendance and performance in all subjects, emphasizing the board's commitment to maintaining academic standards. The CBSE's directive underlines the necessity of full participation in the examination process, as students who fail to appear for a significant number of subjects will not be permitted to take the supplementary exams. This policy is part of CBSE's broader initiative to ensure that students are adequately prepared for their future academic endeavors and to encourage consistent effort throughout their studies. Education experts have noted that such measures may help motivate students to engage more seriously with their coursework and examinations, underlining the board's intent to foster a culture of diligence and accountability among students.
