Bengal SIR: ECI suspends 7 government officers for dereliction of duty

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has suspended seven government officials in West Bengal for failing to fulfill their responsibilities during the recently launched Special Initiative for Reform (SIR). The SIR program was initiated on November 4, aiming to streamline the electoral process in the state. The draft electoral roll was subsequently published on December 16. The ECI's action underscores its commitment to ensuring accountability among officials involved in the electoral process. The suspension of these officers is part of a broader effort to enhance transparency and efficiency in the management of elections in West Bengal, especially in light of the upcoming polls. The ECI has emphasized the importance of adhering to established protocols, and this move is seen as a significant step towards upholding the integrity of the electoral system in the region.
