All-Weather Road To Cut Through Rajaji National Park, Commercial Vehicles Won't Be Allowed

The Supreme Court of India has revised its previous stay order, permitting the construction of an all-weather metalled road spanning 11.5 kilometers from Laldhang to Chillarkhal in Uttarakhand. This development aims to enhance accessibility for residents of 18 remote villages in the region, significantly improving their connectivity to vital services and resources. While the road construction is expected to provide substantial socio-economic benefits, it will be strictly regulated, with a prohibition on commercial vehicles to minimize environmental impact. The Rajaji National Park, located along the route, is a protected area, and the decision reflects a balance between developmental needs and environmental conservation. The court's ruling underscores the importance of infrastructure development in rural areas while addressing ecological concerns. This initiative is part of broader efforts to improve rural connectivity in India, which is crucial for economic growth and social development in remote regions.
