5 arrested, ₹5 crore fine imposed on contractor after Mumbai metro pillar collapse kills 1

In a tragic incident in Mumbai, a parapet segment of the under-construction Metro 4 corridor collapsed, resulting in the death of one individual and injuries to others. The incident occurred when the structure fell onto an autorickshaw and a car. Following the disaster, five individuals, including the contractor responsible for the construction, have been arrested. Authorities have also imposed a hefty fine of ₹5 crore on the contractor due to negligence and safety violations that led to the collapse. This incident has raised serious concerns about the safety protocols in place for major infrastructure projects in the city. Local officials are now calling for a thorough investigation to prevent such occurrences in the future, as the Metro 4 project is a crucial part of Mumbai's transport expansion plan. The incident underscores the need for stringent oversight in construction practices to ensure public safety, especially in densely populated urban areas like Mumbai, where infrastructure development is rapidly advancing.
