39 Lakh Kg Cannabis Based Drugs Seized Across India Since 2020: Centre

Since 2020, Indian law enforcement agencies have confiscated approximately 39 lakh kilograms of cannabis-based drugs, with Odisha emerging as a significant hotspot for such activities. The data, which was disclosed in Parliament, reveals that the eastern state alone is responsible for over 27 percent of the total drug seizures. This alarming trend highlights the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in combating drug trafficking and substance abuse in the country. The government's efforts to curb the illegal drug trade have led to heightened surveillance and operations, yet the scale of cannabis cultivation and distribution remains substantial, raising concerns about public health and safety. As India continues to battle the drug menace, the focus is increasingly on enhancing enforcement measures and fostering community awareness to mitigate the impact of drug abuse on society.
