'250 Officers, 50 Lakh Claims': Judiciary Rushes To Help Poll Body In Bengal

As West Bengal prepares for elections, the judiciary is taking significant steps to assist the Election Commission with the Special Intensive Revision of voter lists. The Supreme Court has directed the Calcutta High Court to appoint civil judges to expedite the process, addressing an anticipated influx of nearly 50 lakh claims related to voter registration. This intervention comes amidst concerns about the timely completion of voter list revisions, which are crucial for ensuring a smooth electoral process in the state. By mobilizing judicial resources, the aim is to streamline the verification and approval of claims, thereby enhancing voter accessibility and participation in the upcoming elections. The collaboration between the judiciary and the Election Commission underscores the importance of maintaining electoral integrity and ensuring that every eligible voter has the opportunity to participate in the democratic process.
